Are you an MI freak too?

Secret of Monkey Island::Special EditionTell Tale announced a few days ago that they would be releasing a new episodic edition of Monkey Island, appropriately titled Tales of Monkey Island. I happen to be a HUGE Monkey Island fan so this news had be doing Charleston kicks of joy for a good 15 min (okay… maybe 5…).

If you don’t know Monkey Island, in short it’s a spawn of the old LucasArts games - like, Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones - you know, one of the original point-click adventure games. It involves pirates, booty, and insult sword fighting. Oh! And a maniacal talking skull named Murray. There’s plenty of deliciously witty humor, as well as a few songs that always seem to get stuck in my head.

So, yeah. Pure awesomeness. I’ve been waiting for this day a long time. Oh! And for extras, they’re also re-mastering Secret of Monkey Island, which of course I’ll have to play through too. It’s built on top of the original game, only with new art, voice-overs done my the original Curse of MI cast and more goodies like that. If you have nothing else to do on a Friday afternoon you should definitely go look at the websites for both.

The Laptop that kept giving

So, I’m a fairly clumsy person. Well, maybe a really clumsy person. It’s not that I meant to be, but grace and balance were just not strong enough genes. Now that you know that…

Last Friday while I was packing up my stuff to leave work I accidentally dropped my laptop. Let me tell you, that has to be one of the most sickly feelings to watch what happens to be an extension of myself fall flat to the floor. Luckily Apple has thought through people like me and made a little gyro in the Macbook that shuts down the hard drives if it feels it’s falling. I proved it worked.

On the downside though, the casing became bent in the process. Think of a flat surface that’s sort of been curled up on the sides. Everything is still in tact but there is definitely a more concave look to my laptop these days.

Today however I discovered a plus to this little mishap. I haven’t listened to music with just the speakers on my laptop lately and discovered this morning that the curved nature of my computer lets its sound, which normally would sound flat, now sound sort of… stereo? I’m not really sure what the correct word is to use for it, but it sounds 10xs better for some reason. It could be that my ears are still adjusting to normalcy (saw Thao, Samantha Crane, and Sister Suvi at Kilby Court last night - holy cow what an awesome show) but damn it sounds good.

Clumsy FTW.

Springtime, Figure Drawing, & Video Games

Well… it’s been 3 months since my last post, so why not say a little something right?

I’m extremely happy that the weather seems to have taken a turn for the best. Admittingly I live in a 4 season state, but really only like 3 out of those 4 seasons. Winter is not my friend. However, I do get to justify playing more video games in the winter - you know, it being so cold and wet and gross out… what better thing to do, right?

Speaking of Video Games… over at the Code Kitchen Brian is setting aside the next 48 hours to create a full-on video game. These are times where I really wish I knew how to program because it sounds like a heap of fun. So be sure to check out his 48 hour remarks of what he’s doing, what he’s eating, and whatever else programmers talk about in a 48 hour game contest.

So where’s that leave me for the weekend? Well, I’ve decided to finally kick myself in the butt and go do some figure drawing. Lucky for me there’s a local University that offers a $5 open class every Saturday. So the fashionable Dr. Wall and myself will be sketching our little hearts out tomorrow morn.

As for the rest of the weekend… it’s supposed to be 60s-70s which means SPRING CLEANING! I know that sounds extremely dull, but I actually enjoy giving my house a good cleansing so I’m looking forward to throwing open all the windows and letting the Spring smell permeate the house.

Oh and did I mention I cut my hair? Short? Really, really short? Because… you know… I did.
